Dartington Medieval
The renovation and interior decoration of a 15th century, grade II listed cottage nestled in the South Hams, Devon, was completed in 2023. With little natural light, dark oak beams & stone finishes throughout the house, our approach was to embrace the characterful medieval features whilst incorporating timeless design and create a warm, inviting family home.
We focused on using natural tones which complimented, rather than competed against, the various natural finishes inherent to the historical building. We opted for moody & atmospheric schemes in the living spaces, which we balanced with a brighter and uplifting design for the kitchen.
By mixing old with new, we wanted to create spaces which felt respectful to the heritage of the building whilst also being functional for everyday family life. With Devon's go-to antique town of Ashburton on the doorstep, we aimed to source beautiful antique furniture & artwork pieces from a variety of eras & styles to create a layered, timeless feel throughout the house.
