Dorset Retreat
The full renovation of this Victorian villa on the Dorset coast was completed in 2023. Our clients, a young family, asked us to create a joyful and relaxing new iteration of a cherished holiday home. Keen to host large groups of family and friends on a regular basis, practicality had to be key to the design. We set out to create a playful, practical home with an emphasis on colours and textures found in Nature, and making the most of the abundant natural light and beautiful setting by the sea.
We needed to create a series of rooms which could be used for all kinds of occasions, whether the clients were home alone with their own children or entertaining guests of all ages. With a contemporary feel throughout, the living spaces were designed to be elegant, fresh and inviting, whilst making the most of the stunning views to the sea and country. The bedrooms are serene yet playful, with functionality being, through the use of built-in storage, the constant background to the designs.
Colour and pattern were integral to our design approach, bringing personality to each of the rooms whilst retaining a calming, neutral feel so as to not overpower or compete with the beautiful views & setting of the villa. We used wallpaper, artwork pieces & fabrics to incorporate natural elements into the design, bringing the outside in, in the most playful way.
